As you may have heard on the morning announcements, the lower school is preparing to put on another musical this year, known as Annie. It is being produced by Patrick Watson, Miss Kjonaas, and Ms. Bonnell.
Annie takes place in the 1920s and takes place in an orphanage, New York City at the Roxy Theater. Annie is the main character of the play and during the story her character gets adopted by the rich Oliver Warbucks to spend Christmas with him. In the end, he adopts Annie permanently. This play was chosen because the students love the characters and are familiar with the movie. The play also offers lots of roles to the students as well, giving them many options.
There are about 28 lower school students that have been casted to perform in this play. Our main character, Annie will be played by Maritess Helgeson. and one of the other key characters, Oliver Warbucks will be played by Zachary LeGrande. The other orphans will be played by Ellie Vossoughi, Emma Brennan, Kennon Falkenberg, Olivia Kesner, Brooke Rowley, Catherine Wilda, Alyssa Eastman, Sadie Stein, Molly Kesner and Katelyn VanDyke. Ms. Bonnell, the art teacher, is helping produce the play and is in charge of art and design of the play. Linda works with her 3rd period class to create the props and stage sets for all the musicals. What they do is change up the design of the the cafeteria and stage to fit the setting. Additionally, she is also in charge of the backstage tech crew and designs the characters will wear for their roles in the performance.
I encourage that everyone, especially the lower school students should go watch both performances of the play to support their fellow students who worked tirelessly on this production. These students have put a lot of time into this, staying after school to rehearse and memorizing their parts. The play will be free and the first performance will be on December 2nd at 6:00 PM at the school cafeteria and the second performance will also be in the school cafeteria on December 3rd at 2:00 PM. To the cast of Annie, we are excited to see the payoff of your hard work!
